The sports equitation appears from the middle of the XIXth century: races, crosses and treks are essentially practised by servicemen. Very quickly, the écuyers of the Cadre Noir de Saumur become famous in the biggest events. The first Championship of the Horse of Weapons, which will become later the Eventing, is organized to Saumur in 1902. He is gained by an écuyer of the Cadre Noir, the Captain de Saint-Phalle.
In 1912, the equestrian sports make their entry to the Olympic Games. To JO of Paris in 1924, the Captain Lesage gains the individual bronze medal in training. Two Olympiads later in Los Angeles, he is an Olympic champion of the discipline. Then it is a rain of medals: all in all, with 44 écuyers' selections on 17 Olympiads, the Cadre Noir de Saumur gained 9 Olympic medals among which 6 golden medals, a medal of silver and 2 medals of bronze.
The sports performances of the members of the Cadre Noir confirm the excellence of the formation given by the écuyers:
In 2002; Jerez de la Frontera's world Equestrian Games: the warrant officer Didier Courrèges and Jean-Luc Force gained the title of vice - world champions by team
In 2003; European championship: new selection in team of France and new medals for the Cadre Noir because Jean-Luc Force and Arnaud Boiteau gain the title of vice - champions of Europe by team
In 2004; Olympic Games of Athens: Arnaud Boiteau and the chief warrant officer Courrèges are crowned Olympic champions by team in eventing
In 2007; European championship: the team of France is, as in 2005, vice - champion of Europe in eventing with the cooperation of two écuyers: Arnaud Boiteau and Didier Dhennin
